by Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and chairman of Revolution HealthWhen we started Revolution Health a few years ago it was based upon a few big ideas—one of which was to connect consumers to the best health information on the Web. We’ve started to grow this mission by working with important partnerships like ours with the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
One of our most recent innovations to fulfill this promise is launching the first-of-its-kind Revolution Health Online Health Fair. This is a place where everyone can go, for free, and easily learn more about NAMI and some of our other nonprofit partners. And for every person each day who visits the NAMI booth Revolution Health is making a donation – up to $10,000. It’s easy, it’s informative, it’s interesting, it’s innovative, and it’s all good for NAMI!
This joint effort with NAMI is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long and healthy relationship. If together we can better educate consumers to embrace the important mental health issues in our country then truly the revolution will be underway.
We hope you’ll visit the Health Fair that runs through June 30. And stay tuned for more from NAMI and Revolution Health!

I think this is a cool idea. excited to see partnerships/groups working together. keep it up.
Steve,
Excellent opportunity to reach the numbers that need being contacted in re SMI, rehabilitation and recovery globally and in our back yard.
Good job!

How much of your funding for NAMI comes from pharmaceutical companies?
I think our healthcare system needs to do soo much more to connect people who need help to providers. If mental illness were like cancer or diabetes, the family doctor would be able to send the patient to the right specialist, and would follow up to be sure treatment had started. Instead, the mentally ill are left to seek out services for themselves - how many "800" numbers can a person stand?? - and considered to be non-compliant when they give up.
grrrr.
"a" has a problem with the pharmaceutical companies. Look where we are with them, where would we be without them?
Mental illness has much in common with stroke, Alzheimer's disease, brain tumors and Huntington's disease. Neurologists use the term anosognosia to describe the condition known as impaired awareness of illness. Mental health practitioners call it lack of insight. I think it would be a good idea to start using "anosognosia" help people learn that mental illness is a physical problem that has a name. "Lack of insight" does not get the message across very well.
To anon july30, then do the obese also have anosognosia? How else to explain why they would be so self-destructive even after their docs have told them this is harmful? It's just a slower form of suicide. Shouldn't we force them into treatment? If we could save their lives, shouldn't we do it? Isn't that the compassionate thing to do?

This is an amazing idea. Health care must be accessible to everyone, not just a few sectors in the society. I agree that there should be mental health awareness. Even for dentists, we should understand more about dental fear and anxiety.
